An Awesome “EXOSKELETON” Exhibition at GAMUT Gallery in Minneapolis, MN.

Thanks so much to the city of Minneapolis, MN and to all the folks who rolled out to @gamutgallerympls for the opening of “EXOSKELETON”. The evening was filled with amazing energy and positive vibes! Much love to @mplsartbabe and the Gamut Family for hosting us and featuring our work in their beautiful gallery. Extremely honored that so many pieces found new forever homes on opening night!

Originally introduced at the Sound of Art Exhibition in New York over 15 years ago, Monty Montgomery & @tony_philippou merged their unique artistic styles into #Kaleidoskull, blending figurative realism and abstract geometry. Tony’s contrasting realistic human and animal forms emerge out of the structure of Monty’s precise angles of bold color, textures, and shapes. Kaleidoskull’s latest series of works featured in Exoskeleton utilize insects as representations of the literal and metaphorical translation of our defense mechanisms we use to protect ourselves physically and emotionally. Together the duo constructs visual imagery that relates to our sense of wonder at the exquisite beauty of things masked, yet revealed. Each figure in their paintings and drawings is combined with an insect as a form of armor and anonymity. Monty and Tony wish to connect with viewers through their world of imagination, inspiring the audience to feel empowered and engaged with the world they have created.

Inspired by their combined love of geometric and organic forms, Montgomery and Philippou endeavored to create a new aesthetic that exhibited the beauty, strength, and contrast of the design elements intersecting women, insects, and color theory. Boundaries are intended to be pushed in the realm of art, design, and the remarkable synergy between nature and geometry as a definitive force.

The original forty four panels from the 176 foot “Geo #98” mural created for the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park are released! The mural in it’s entirety is the largest solo work to date in the history of the museum and was featured at “Bloom Bash” 2019. A selection of panels are currently featured throughout Porto Vista Hotel San Diego in the Little Italy neighborhood of Visit San Diego, California. A few words from Lauren Siri of 1805 Gallery. – “1805 Gallery is thrilled to offer a selection of Monty Montgomery’s original works from the Geo Series that were originally commissioned by Polychromist of the San Diego Museum of Art in 2019 for their annual “Art Alive” event. Monty’s geometric paintings are clean precise blocks of color that are effortlessly layered and intersect to create the illusion of depth. Monty Montgomery Art is known for his Geo Series, a lifelong painting exploration with endless color and shape combinations. “Brown Ballerinas For Change” collaborative mural in the FAN District of Richmond, Virginia.

The “Brown Ballerinas for Change” collaborative mural with Nico Cathcart has been completed in the Fan District of Richmond, Virginia on the corner of Main and Granby streets. The mural is inspired by the activism and power of the four young women who make up Brown Ballerinas for Change. The mural contains all four ballerinas unified together in a graceful jump with a sparrow in flight symbolizing renewal and change. We are all so thankful for the uplifting energy that Ava, Kennedy, Sophia, and Shania have gifted the country. The mission of B.B.F.C. is to help create advocacy, social justice, and to increase participation of underrepresented populations in ballet. A little Holiday tour through Virginia!

Hope all of you are doing great out there! It’s been so nice having a little time here in Virginia with Family and Friends. Had a nice visit through Richmond, Virginia for a few days with a stop by GreenGate RVA for a little touch up on the “Geo #86” mural located at 12171 W Broad St. Henrico, VA 23233.

Enjoyed a cold, rainy visit to Historic Farmville, Virginia with a little Uptown Coffee Cafe Farmville warmth and a flashback to the “Warehouse Triptych Mural” completed in 2014 located at the Farmers Market in the heart of Downtown Farmville . This mural project experience will benefit our whole school community. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for students that collaborate with Monty. The rest of our classes will tour the mural while It is being created to ask questions and observe a professional artist applying the very skills and concepts that they are learning about in art class. This piece began in the San Diego studio as a collaborative painting by Chris Cho and myself. Chris drew and painted the water colored image of “G” and then I brought in all of the color and line work “LIVE” at Blackbird Ordinary during Art Basel 2017 while “G” Love and Special Sauce was getting down on stage. Garrett has been a great friend over the years and become one of my top collectors. It was an honor to join them for the get down in Miami and to bring this piece to life.

“Diego” spreads a little love at San Diego Comic-Con!

It’s the final day of Comic-Con International in the Gaslamp Quarter of Visit San Diego so cruise on by the #hopupgallery located at 453 Fifth Avenue to hang with “Diego” and the rest of the #rabbitville family! “Diego” will continue to make appearances throughout the city before finding his permanent location. The statue was painted for the #Rabbitville Project as part of the @gaslampquarter Association 150th anniversary installation of fifteen, four foot, fiberglass rabbit statues to be permanently installed through the heart of @sandiego .

The Gaslamp Quarter Association in conjunction with Downtown Partnership Clean and Safe will collaborate in a 150th anniversary celebration with the installation of 15 fiberglass rabbit statues in the Gaslamp Quarter. 150 years ago, the area that is now the Gaslamp Quarter was jokingly nicknamed “Rabbitville” after its chief inhabitants. The “Rabbitville” installation will honor the pioneering spirit of legendary founder, Alonzo Horton, who transformed Rabbitville into modern San Diego. 15 artists will be commissioned to paint and decorate these unique canvases that will be on display to the public later in 2017.

The new “Fractal Series” door is now installed in the home of Pete and Beth Akey in Charlottesville, Virginia. “Fractal #60” is solid birch and was the first door that I have ever taken on. I wanted to allow the tones and patterns of the beautiful wood to come through while creating an interesting motion and energy that bounced around inside the shape. Specific color choices were dialed in with the client to insure a vibe to fit the interior of their abode. @montanacans have landed on five new birch panels here in the @sandiego_ca studio & they are now ready to arrive in Orlando for the talented @tony_philippou to work his ~MAGIC~ on them. Our exhibit of 30 collaborative/solo works & a mural @redefinearts in Orlando, Florida will open in March 2017.

The "BE WHO YOU ARE" collaborative mural with Todd Parr and the kids of the Virginia Children’s Book Festival is now complete!

The completed full view of the 6′ x 16′ collaborative “LIVE” mural done with Todd Parr along with the talented kids and folks who made it out to the Virginia Children’s Book Festival 2016 at Longwood University in the Town of Farmville, Virginia . The festival was so much fun and a huge success with over 6000 kids attending. The mural is currently placed at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA until the new year, at which time it will be dedicated to Virginia’s children at it’s permanent home, the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, VA.*View the mural at a larger size in “Murals” on this site and enjoy progress moments on the “Blog”.

“Converge” is the newest  KREASHUN canvas piece by @jfeatherdesigns & @montymontgomery created “LIVE” at KAABOO Music and Art festival in Del Mar, California September 15-18, 2016. It was an amazing four days of creating while being surrounded by so many talented Artists and Friends! The piece came to life on three 3′ x 6′ x 2.5″ which can be shown as one or seperated into three individual works.  “Converge” is now varnished and released to the public for purchase.

The new “Fractal Series” mural titled “Fractal #35” 9′ x 13′ with Montana cans is now complete in the heart of the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, CA. The mural is on the Gunn street wall of the Studio Door Gallery located at 3750 30th Street SD, CA. Thanks to Maxx Moses & Patrick at The Studio Door for this opportunity. Fresh new paint hitting the original Kreashun wall in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, Ca.

In early 2014 @kreashun joined forces with @maxxmoses777 @gloriamuriel , @miguel_angel_godoy , @michaelamorillo , and other friends from @sandiego_ca & L.A. to bring the “North Park Mural Project” to life for the community. After a little @kreashun meeting this morning we decided that I would tackle the “North Park Mural Project” wall as a solo project for now, Kreashun will blast it again down the road. Over the next few days a fresh new vibe to the section of this continuing project will come to life.

I am very honored for “Fractal #1″ and “Fractal #3″ from The “Fractal” series 2014 to now join the permanent collection of Capitol One Finance in the headquarters located in Richmond, Virginia. Thanks to j fergeson gallery in Farmville, Virginia for featuring my work and bringing this to life!

Gallery Statement: The j fergeson gallery in Farmville, VA brings together the work of nationally recognized and local artists in the gallery space as well as in the carefully curated gift shop. It features contemporary painting, ceramics, sculpture and photography. The range of work promises to introduce gallery visitors to artists and craftspeople they might not otherwise encounter.
