Jungle studio set up complete in Atenas, Alajuela, Costa Rica!

The Jungle studio set up is now complete & I am ready to start creating again in the beautiful mountains of Central America! Over the next 2 weeks I’ll be painting a new body of 10-12 original works to be exhibited at Etnia in Atenas, Alajuela, Costa Rica. The opening will be on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 5-10pm and the exhibit will be on display until Sunday, May 15, 2016. Camilo Garavito is a great new friend and the owner of ETNIA. He will be featuring a “LIVE” band with local musicians along with appetizers and homemade sangria through the exhibit for all whom attend.

After completing the “Nature Series” benches in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa, Nicaragua with three amazing teams of individuals I have now continued on to Atenas, Alajuela, Costa Rica for the next Project. In the moments of travel coming here, I so strongly realized how very blessed I am to have been able to create in Nicaragua with my MOM!

She is one of the most inspiring, caring, giving, humans I have ever met and I just wanted to take this opportunity to say that I LOVE YOU MOM, and that I am so very proud to be your son and your friend! Thank you for being the beautiful woman you are in so many ways to so many people. You inspire me to be the best I can be everyday, in every way! We were all so lucky to have you with us on the Mission Trip in Nicaragua. The "Nature Series" benches are complete in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa, Nicaragua

A glimpse of the eight hand crafted benches by a Managuan carpenter have now been assembled and hand painted by everyone here at the Verbo Church in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa.

Another beautiful day here in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa working with the community and the people of the Verbo Church through Connect Nicaragua. Over the last few days we have all experienced so many powerful moments together and the eight benches are coming to life! Our entire team along with kids and adults from the community have been painting away!

Awesome moments happening here in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa, Nicaragua

It’s really powerful to be here in Nicaragua working beside my mom with this amazing team of individuals. The people here are so wonderful, and full of life! Our team has made the journey through Managua with the “Connect Nicaragua” crew and we have now completed building and priming eight hand crafted benches at the Verbo Church here in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa. We are all working together in so many wonderful ways to bring all we can to the children and people of this beautiful community as they constantly give so much back to us.

This is going to be one amazing week with many moments to never be forgotten.

A JOURNEY that began so many years ago….

As I stand here on this beautiful Downtown Farmville morning I am overwhelmed by the thought that this artistic journey began over 20 years ago sitting in the library around the corner drawing my very first logo for Cilli Original Designs which I launched as a junior at Longwood University . As the sun reflects on the 90′ X 20′ “Warehouse Triptych Mural Project” which was completed in 2014, it’s truly hard to believe how quickly time passes. We must do the best we can to enjoy every moment and share them with all the amazing individuals along the way. Thanks to Randy Edmonson, my former painting instructor at Longwood University, Pam Butler of Mainly Clay , the entire Farmville Downtown Partnership, and the Town of Farmville, Virginia,! I am so honored to still be a part of this wonderful town. It will always be so important to me.

The last Saturday morning on the "Right Coast".

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 3 months since I was last at home in San Diego, Ca. I awoke this morning in a beautiful, hidden abode in the hills of Farmville, Virginia and realized this was my last Saturday here on the East Coast for a while. It’s chilly out, raining, and peacefully still. I will miss these moments and remember them fondly.

It’s been an awesome start to this adventure in Atenas, Alajuala, Costa Rica. I arrived to New Summit Academy yesterday and it has been super cool meeting the staff and all the students. I had a great morning speaking with many of the students about their artistic visions and really look forward to seeing their DREAMS come to life!  Made it to the hardware store this afternoon to grab supplies and caught this beautiful Hibiscus on the lunch break. The landscape is so beautiful and the people are so friendly, it really is wonderful here.

I am truly looking forward to the rest of my time here learning, creating, and continuing to work with the Students and Staff of New Summit Academy, I feel so lucky to be here and I am stoked for color to start hitting the wall on this new “Nature Series” mural. “Moment #16” will soon be coming to life here in Costa Rica!

"The Nature Series" is constantly flowing in many new directions.

It’s always a great feeling to capture moments in your mind and turn them into a visual experience on a surface. “The Nature Series” which kicked off in early 2014 with “Visuals in the Park” has truly become my newest way of taking in nature’s landscapes and relaying them through color, shape, and geometry. Over the last couple years “The Nature Series”  has been constantly evolving in it’s own way and there are many new visions in the works. Nature has always been such an important part of my life and this journey of taking images from nature and turning them into moments such as “Moment #11” and “Moment #12” below, truly allows me to be in that certain moment and relay it to others. Here’s to many many more, “Moments” in Nature.

New works hitting walls!

There’s nothing quite like being HOME on the East Coast with family and creating at the studio nestled in nature. This past month in Virginia was filled with creative moments all over the state. It was awesome catching up with friends and completing various projects in Virginia Beach, Richmond, Charlottesville, Louisa, Fredericksburg, and Farmville while ending the visit with a birthday celebration on my folks property! 

Stoked to now be HOME in San Diego, and get back at it on the West Coast! Getting to the final touches on “Nature’s Rays” and “Visuals in the Park #2” which will soon be hitting walls in the area. Various projects in the works & ready to hang my newest piece for the collection from my good buddy Chris of “ROBOTS WILL KILL”. Get to creating peeps!

I made a pit stop through Farmville, Virginia  on this past Sunday to visit with friends, meet with a few spots, and deliver “Reading Between the Lines” for the Virginia Children’s Book Festival. I revisited the “Warehouse Triptych Mural Project” which was done almost exactly a year ago. It’s just truly hard to believe sometimes how quickly time passes. Getting a little frame work on with Dad at home in Virginia.

Nothing like waking up on a Saturday morning in VA to the sound of birds chirping and wind whistling through the trees as the sun peaks through to bring in a beautiful day in nature. Spent a little time on the front porch taking in this beautiful place and it’s surroundings while enjoying a little morning coffee with my folks.

Dad and I popped to it and started building a new floating frame for “WHY”, an original work of mine from Mr. Edmonson’s painting class at Longwood University in 1996. It’s hard to believe that almost twenty years have passed since creating this piece. I’ve decided to make it a permanent piece in one of the guest rooms at my parent’s home. It will be fun to re visit these memories every time I return home to VA!

HOLY COW! It’s hot here in Virginia.

Punching through this Virginia humidity and getting at new birch panels, wood blocks, and skate decks in the studio. Being surrounded by ~Nature’s Song~ and the palette of “green” is so powerful. It speaks, asking to be utilized through creating. It feels so nice to be nestled back in these woods of this state where I grew up. I once built forts and played in creeks here, I now use this land and Nature’s offerings to create from. Thank You Nature!

Visiting Ben and Jen in Las Vegas to see "Moment #5" in it’s new Home!

After completing the KREASHUN mural in Las Vegas at the International Licensing EXPO on June 9-11th I was able to roll over and catch up with Ben and Jen at their home outside of the city. “Moment #5” from “The Nature Series” is in their collection. Ben is the son of Randy Edmonson who was my painting instructor at Longwood University. I last saw Ben over 15 years ago when he was 10 years old running around in Bedford Hall at Longwood. Ben is now also in the ARTS as a  Graphic Designer and  I am honored for “Moment #5” to be in his personal collection. It’s so awesome how years pass and “The PATH” continues.

Awesome moments is San Francisco, California

After finishing the custom artwork for the Paddle Surfboard project in Placerville, Ca., I decided to cruise on over and visit San Francisco. It was an awesome few days in SF visiting friends, hitting galleries, and just popping around in the city. I made the  journey through “Muir Woods” to connect with that amazing place once again, and camped at “Kirby Cove” campground which has now become one of my favorite spots. The views looking back across the Golden Gate Bridge were so inspiring and I will never forget the moments…. I am so thankful to be on this artistic JOURNEY!

A little *SUNDAY FUNDAY* with the "Nature Series"

•SUNDAY FUNDAY• Popped up with the sun this morning to get rolling on new panels for “The Nature Series”. This entire series kicked off last week with “Moment #1”, which can be viewed in the “Gallery” – 2014. The series is based on patterns, elements, and colors in Nature. Could be a flower, could be moss, could be a butterfly, fluttering through the trees, maybe even something I thought I saw…

Combining these natural moments with my emotions, gives me an edge of creating on completely how I feel and what I saw at a certain moment in the lands where I was raised. I can’t really explain a more core feeling in creating. The series will continue until my last days…

It was an honor to do this portrait of “KHAKI” for my great friend Carlos Lola of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Carlos and I have been great friends since being room mates in college at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. I’ve been in and out of Khaki’s life since the day he picked her up and she will be so missed by many many folks. RIP Khaki, you will always be with us and cherished. We miss you beautiful girl!

Back at it in the VA studio for a bit, Awwwww Yeah!

The “Authentic Flow” commission 24″ x 36″ x 2″ acrylic on canvas is complete. It felt so nice to get off the road for a bit and settle down in my newest studio space in Va. I reconditioned my drafting table from 2002 that I had stored, built some shelves, and hung photographs and images that I found from my Old Gallery on the Charlottesville, Va downtown Mall which completed the space for permanent creating on the East Coast!

Super pumped for so many Original works to find amazing new homes on both sides of the USA.. One of my favorite recent stories is that I reconnected with my 7th grade Science teacher, “Ms. Cheryl Harris” over the Holidays and now I am super stoked to say that after years of not letting it go, I know now that “Into the City” has found the owner and HOME that I was being very specific to wait for after such a long time….It’s so awesome when old friends, new friends, folks you’ve only met through the web, and even just on the street at events for the first time, come back around and into your career, to become a “COLLECTOR” and a part of your passion, a new part of your life, what a feeling!! A little time to chill in Telluride/Durango/Breckenridge, Colorado!!!

I made some final stops in Utah at Arches National Park to see the “Delicate Arch”, man o man that place was amazing… The “Balanced Rock” blew me away and was hard to believe…

Gonna be hanging out in Telluride, Durango, and Breckenridge for a few before rollin’ back to Diego, Ca. What an AMAZING trip this has been, so blessed!

Magical spots along the way in Arizona and Utah!!!

The last couple days of the JOURNEY through Arizona and Utah have been so amazing… We rolled through the Echo Cliffs and Secret Canyon as we were leaving Arizona and reached the deserts of Utah and finally made it to Zion National Park and hung out for the evening on the cliffs along side the Big Horn Sheep!!!

Today we will be heading into Bryce Canyon to hike through the canyon and witness the AMAZING Sunset!!! Happy Tuesday!! -Monty

I never imagined the Grand Canyon was this GRAND!!!

Things on the road are going AWESOME with my folks. A few days ago I was blown away by Muir Woods and the Sequoia National Park, the trees in those places, well, it’s like they are alive and just full of stories to tell… Yesterday, I was blown away again by the Grand Canyon, still speechless….

I am so pumped and already planning to make the trip back one day to hike down into the inner canyon to experience even more, this place is AMAZING!!!

The “LIVE” Mural with J Feather at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas is moving along. We are going into Day 2 in an hour and will flow with the 8′ by 20′ Wall through the day and close out the Mural on Thursday at 6pm…

Tearing up the streets in Cincinatti!!!

Having a BLAST here in Cincinatti, Ohio for my first visit to the state and it’s beautiful spots. Hit up a Reds game and rolled around through the streets all day on Tuesday, so many cool spaces and hidden spots, had my first “Coney Dog” and took some sweet pics along the way….Rollin’ around through the streets again today and then off to Virginia  tomorrow to see the family and friends and hide in the woods a little bit!! "POOL TRADE SHOW" in Vegas went super KOOOOOOL!!!

Welp, I made it back to San Diego in one piece!! 5 days in VEGAS, prepping & painting “LIVE” with JFeather every day from 9am-6pm..Exhausted, but ALIVE!! The dual “LIVE” murals came to life through the days and we met some amazing folks from all over the globe! Many murals to come and pumped to have sold my first painting to Takashi who will be hanging it in Japan! Awwww Yea!!

This weekend is rollin’ with ART & Exhibits in San Diego!

September is ART month here in San Diego, Ca. and man is it kicking off this weekend. Busting some skate decks out and coming up for AIR soon…….

Things are rollin’ and I have been super slammed over the last four weeks with still no time to come up for air but it’s gotta happen soon! I painted LIVE at “Art Around Adams” in Normal Heights 3 weeks ago and it was AWESOME!! The following weekend I painted LIVE and exhibited at The “BEATLES” Tribute Exhibit at the Oceanside Museum of Art along with the Discover SD  “Vandalized” Exhibit at the Viper room D-Town in Quality Social!

The “Red, White, and Black” Exhibit at Gallery AKA in San Diego was a BLAST and then I had 10 Paintings in the “Pancakes and Booze” traveling art Exhibit in Los Angeles two weekends ago for a 2 night event, man o man, two nights to remember. Finishing it off with the “POP Exhibit” with THUMBPRINT GALLERY at Industry Showroom last Friday night!!!  Now popping out two decks for the exhibit with “We LOVE Creativity”….  Pics from all these events will be coming up in “Photos” on the site soon!! Rolling around L.A. hitting Exhibits and catching my peeps!

Shuuuuuu weeeee, what a busy weekend in L.A. I popped in all over the place to check out exhibits and catch up with peeps. Rolled through the “Venice Arts Festival” to hang with Vincent Gordon and catch him painting LIVE then onto see Dave MacDowell’s Exhibit at THINKSPACE Gallery where I caught some of David Cooley’s work and was introduced to Jacub Gagnon’s pieces, freakin’ sweet!

April is Rolling like THUNDER…….

I have three exhibits up right now in San Diego, Ca. and one on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood. I’ve been painting “LIVE” tons over the last few months. I will be painting “LIVE” and exhibiting works again on April 27, 2011 at VIN DE SYRAH in the Gaslamp on 5th ave. from 4:30 till 1:30am with a band and tattoo artist to be announced.  I am currently working on a commission for the “W” Hotel in San Diego and  4 new paintings as we speak and will have them popping up soon on the sites! Holy Week!

I just finished “LUCKY” for the Exhibit tonight with Thumbprint Gallery after late last night finishing two hand painted cans for the Exhibit at Visual Art Supply Gallery on this Saturday.

Delivered paintings yesterday around San Diego and then all day today have been working on a piece that I will be painting “LIVE at the “W” Hotel on Thursday with Art Kills Artists for an NBC San Diego Party! What day is it? Who cares. Back to work! -monty

Hanging with L.C. and David Cooley at Cannibal Flower in L.A.

The Cannibal Flower Exhibit this weekend at the VORTEX  in downtown L.A. was slammed  and full of crazy entertainment as always! I had a blast at the event and kicked it with my peeps from the L.A. area. Yesterday was by far the coolest Saturday I’ve had in quite a while. It was beautiful here in San Diego, California, not a cloud in the sky.  I kicked the day off by painting “LIVE” and meeting tons of cool cats on the rooftop of the Hard Rock Hotel at club FLOAT and then rolled with my friend Jason Feather to the “G” Love & Special Sauce / Jack Johnson concert here in S.D. It was great catching up with “G” and kicking it for a minute before he rolled out to Arizona for the next gig. Thanks for the tickets and passes “G”! A Saturday for the books!

Holy Moly, October is already CRAZY!

I am in no way complaining but man o man, this is the kitchen and living room as we speak! October has turned into a super busy month with four exhibits up in San Diego and Painting “LIVE” at the Ivy Rooftop, the Hard Rock Hotel Rooftop, and the A.C. Lounge throughout the month! I will be teaming up with a variety of new peeps this month as well that I am super pumped about and doing at least 4 to 5 new paintings as well. Good times at the A.C. Lounge!

I had a super cool time painting “LIVE” at the A.C. Lounge last night in North Park. Hung out with Johnny Tran and friends and look forward to painting there more often on Sunday nights with The Uptown Social Club. I kicked off a new series at the spot and will be finishing the piece in the next few days.The A.C. Hanging out on opening night at DYLAN Gallery in Philadelphia.

Opening night in Philadelphia at DYLAN Gallery was a blast! I met so many cool folks from the city and had a few old skool friends from Charlottesville, Va. pop into the spot and surprise me, so good to see familiar faces from the past.  My folks made the drive up from Va. to make the opening which was super cool. Dylan is a great dude so pop into the Gallery and hang out.The Gallery is located on the “PIAZZA” in Northern Liberties at 1050 North Hancock street suite 84 Philadelphia, Pa. 19123. Heading to L.A. this weekend for the new "Thinkspace Gallery" opening!
