“Baby’s Got Sauce” is completed with prints in the works!

Posted on February 10, 2018

This piece began in the San Diego studio as a collaborative painting by Chris Cho and myself. Chris drew and painted the water colored image of “G” and then I brought in all of the color and line work “LIVE” at Blackbird Ordinary during Art Basel 2017 while “G” Love and Special Sauce was getting down on stage. Garrett has been a great friend over the years and become one of my top collectors. It was an honor to join them for the get down in Miami and to bring this piece to life.

The permanent location will be announced in the coming weeks and you can view various angles of “DIEGO” through “Portfolio” / “Original works” / “2017” on http://montymontgomeryart.com

The Gaslamp Quarter Association in conjunction with Downtown Partnership Clean and Safe will collaborate in a 150th anniversary celebration with the installation of 15 fiberglass rabbit statues in the Gaslamp Quarter. 150 years ago, the area that is now the Gaslamp Quarter was jokingly nicknamed “Rabbitville” after its chief inhabitants. The “Rabbitville” installation will honor the pioneering spirit of legendary founder, Alonzo Horton, who transformed Rabbitville into modern San Diego. 15 artists will be commissioned to paint and decorate these unique canvases that will be on display to the public later in 2017.

The Gaslamp Quarter Association is reaching out to corporate patrons to share in the celebration by sponsoring one of the 15 sculptures. Monty Montgomery is an abstract artist who was born and raised in Virginia and currently splits his time between San Diego and the east coast. “Listening to the silence of a color allows me to break everything down, question the proper color of the object or situation, and apply my own reality to it so that all objects or shapes can be felt, individually and as a group through specific color and location choices. My work is constantly based on making connections with my surroundings in nature and visually absorbing every point of attraction and emotion through various moments in public.” Monty is also part of the artistic duo KREASHUN who create colorful, dreamlike interior and exterior walls around the globe.” #eastcoastartcollective

A few words from Chris Chillemi, the owner and creator of “Robots Will Kill”: The Robots Will Kill 15th anniversary show that became a block party. Oh with some live painting, pizza, raffles and good times. Where to start. First thank you to all of the amazing artists. Everyone’s pieces looked amazing and congrats to everyone because one of the only things I heard all night was how great the show looked. Thank you to EVERYONE who came out! I apologize if we didn’t get to speak but between painting the van, talking to people and the amazing time I got a little tied up. Pulling up and seeing a line of people 2 hours before the doors opened was incredibly humbling. Seeing so many people walk around with Robots Will Kill shirts was crazy. This reminds me, yes to everyone who was asking there will be new shirts and hoodies soon. Lots of stuff planned. Thank you to everyone who posted the flier and helped spread the word. One of the best things I heard was “there was no way to miss this, it was one of the most promoted things I’ve every seen on social media”. This means a lot to me. Thank you to everyone one who has supported me and @robotswillkill over the years. Whether it was stopping by the site, uploading pictures, buying something, coming to a show, telling friends etc etc etc. Thank you to everyone who came out early for the bags. Luckily we had great weather. And thank you to everyone who bought a tote bag and took part in the raffles. Thank you to all of the artists over the years who have supported. Again I’m sorry I couldn’t fit everyone in the show. For 20th we’ll rent an airplane hanger. Thank you @lassopizza for all the pizza. People loved it! Thank you to all of the artists who sent in stickers, buttons, paintings etc for the giveaways. Those bags were stuffed to the gills!!! Thank you so much to the guys at @myplasticheart for everything and for always supporting. By far one of the best places in New York. Thank you to my friends and family. You know why. Thank you @zeroproductivity for an awesome flier design. Thank you @rega_army for EVERYTHING!!! Thank you @herb_smith for pushing my artwork and help make RWK what it has become. -Chris Chillemi

The "Nature Series" benches are completed in Rio Blanco, Matagalpa, Nicaragua

Posted on March 26, 2016

It’s been an amazing week in Nicaragua with the mission team from Grace Bible Church of Virginia Beach, Virginia on our “Serve and Learn Trip”. We landed in Managua, Matagalpa and joined forces with the “Connect Nicaragua” team. After spending quality time in the community and gathering supplies, we hit the road for the seven hour bus ride into Rio Blanco, Matagalpa and reached our final destination at the “Verbo Rio Blanco” Church. There were so many powerful moments shared through being together, giving to each other, and creating very special memories with the community.

verbochurchgroupphotoweb

We worked with the Verbo Church members and the local children hand painting the artwork on crafted benches. Each bench was designed after taking in the energy and hearing how each teen recognizes God in the Nature that surrounds them. The “Nature Series” benches will be placed in various locations through the community of Rio Blanco for the people to enjoy. Thank you to Chris and Kelly Jordan of Grace Bible Church, The “Connect Nicaragua” crew, and the wonderful people of the Verbo Church. This experience will never be forgotten and we will surely join forces again soon to spread LOVE to all in every way possible. *View all eight benches in “Gallery 2016” on this website.

I am very honored and excited to have spoken to the students of San Diego State University on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 5:30 to 6:45 about ART and the PATH that it has carried me upon since I was a small child. *Below is a statement from SDSU professor and Artist David Fobes http://art.sdsu.edu/faculty-members/david-fobes/

“Muralist, Street Artist, Entrepreneur Monty Montgomery will be our speaker on March 1st, 5:30-6:45 GMCS-333 on the SDSU campus.

I met Monty Montgomery when I had asked him to assist on the SDSU Art Benches Project
http://sdsuartbench.blogspot.com/…/beach-bums-monty-montgom….
Monty is one of the most enthusiastic and generous people I have ever met. He is also one of the busiest artists on the planet and I have been trying to arrange him to speak for over a year. (He leaves the next day for a project in Costa Rica!).

His work is a reflection of his love for life and his sympathetic reaction to his immediate environment when working on a project.
Its going to be a fun evening with one of San Diego’s finest .”

*Statement from Monty Montgomery

“My work is constantly based on making connections with my surroundings in nature and visually absorbing every point of attraction and emotion through various moments in public. I mold everyday situations into visual forms that express what I felt at that moment through energies, spontaneous actions, nature’s offerings, and very specific spoken words that I seem to hear a little differently. I enjoy the intensity and calmness within all types of people; even more so, that moment which brings true feelings to the surface. I often channel my energy through shape and color relationships that play a diverse role in relaying something complicated or very simple. I enjoy letting the viewer decide upon how the combinations make them feel.”

TARGET Express "SOUTH PARK" 105′ x 11′ Permenant Kreashun Mural Installation is complete in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego, CA. .

Posted on October 6, 2015

Mural Title: “SOUTH PARK”

The goal of this mural was to relate to the local South Park residents by incorporating special nuances that they would notice and appreciate. From the historic clock face on the opposite street corner to the tree at the parking lot entrance, from the original 1900’s trolley that ran down the street to the flight of the hummingbirds that are native through this region, we wanted to reference the special features of this beloved neighborhood. Our hope is that residents and shoppers alike will love and appreciate the mural as much as we relished creating it.

The "Eastern Rays" mural from Longwood University featured as Pat McGee’s new album cover

Posted on May 12, 2015

My longtime friend and former classmate at Longwood College, Pat McGee, has completed his 10th album which is released today! I’m honored to collaborate with @patmcgeeband from an artistic standpoint on this project. Pat is using visuals from the “Eastern Rays” mural in Bedford Hall at Longwood @longwooduniversity for the cover and packaging of his new album. A few color alterations and a “distressed feel” have been added to the original mural images to bring the classic 70’s flavor into the design. The new album is being printed on vinyl as well as digitally. Pat recorded with his dream musicians, Artists that were on some of the most classic albums of all time. The band of legends includes: on drums- Russ Kunkel, on bass-Leland Sklar, on guitars- Waddy Wachtel, Jeff Pevar & Danny Kortchmar. There are also some amazing special guests including Pat Monahan from Train, John Popper from Blues Traveler, Paul Barrere from Little Feat and more, as well as Pat’s long time band members. This album is a return to Pat’s songwriting routes heavily influenced by 1970’s singer-songwriter/classic rock genre.

Monty Painting ERM Close

Monty Montgomery ’98 has left a permanent mark on the campus building where he spent much of his Longwood career.

One of the large-scale murals for which the pop-flavored artist is known covers a wall in a first floor hallway in Bedford Hall. Eastern Rays, a cityscape that he worked on from Feb. 11-21, is his largest solo mural—45 feet wide and 13 feet high. He was commissioned to do the work by the Department of Art, Theatre and Graphic Design, part of his campus appearance as a Rosemary Sprague Visiting Artist.

“The mural represents Longwood to me—how I feel when I’m there, my years of happiness, all of the people there,” said Montgomery, who lives in San Diego.

Montgomery’s work, which can be viewed at montymontgomeryart.com and www.kreashun.com, has taken him to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas. In addition to murals and works on canvas, he also paints wood blocks and skate decks.

Montgomery’s career started as a Longwood junior when he launched a clothing line, Cilli Original Designs, out of the trunk of his car. After graduating, he worked as a designer for surf shops in Virginia Beach, later was a designer for an entertainment marketing company in Charlottesville—his clients included the Dave Matthews Band—has twice opened a gallery in Charlottesville and also lived briefly in Boston and Brooklyn before moving to San Diego in 2008.

“Longwood is a big part of me,” said Montgomery. “It’s my home; it’s where I began my career.”   -Kent Booty

Bringing images to life!

Posted on September 22, 2010

I recently crossed into the land of doing my first portrait style painting of something that actually had blood flowing through the body! Honestly, I’m not really sure why I have never attempted this, but when situations present themselves, well, I guess we all push a little harder. Below you see an original photo and what I brought to life in my way!

Baily

I am now offering this as an option! I am currently working on my first photo of kids as well so we will soon see what that turns out to look like, hopefully not aliens! If you are interested in me pumping out your pets, kids, friends, places, moments, etc.. Contact me and email me a photo that has all of what you want and I will bring a little of who knows what to it! I can add words and feelings as I understand what you want, we just need to talk!

C-Ville Weekly Arts Magazine voted "Best Artist"

Posted on September 13, 2005

I wanted to take a minute and say thanks so much to C-Ville weekly for an awesome “Best of C-Ville” party and to the City of Charlottesville, Va. for all of your votes that enabled me to pick up “Best Artist”. I am very honored to be selected and appreciate all of your support. Without the energy from everyone in the community I would have never been able to create and see the way I do. I will continue to do all I can to build the arts in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Best of C-VILLE

ARTIST
Monty Montgomery

“The founder of Cilli Original Designs and CODG gallery, Montgomery is sharp and focused, yet full of energy and ideas, much like the brightly colored, pop-influenced paintings he produces. He also offers his own clothing line. Runners up were oil-painter Robin Braun and watercolorist Lee Alter. ”
